Kristen Lee Traina has loved hair color and makeup since the age of 5. Its’ glamour enamoured her. Needless to say, it was and still is her passion. Kristen has now been working in the industry for 16 years, and owned her own business in NYC for 10 of those years specializing in color correction, dimensional color and makeup. Her goal is to inspire change in her clients and establish good communication through consultation to better service their needs. Her client’s personality and personal style help Kristen choose the perfect hue to compliment each individual.
For 11 years Kristen was a valued member of Goldwell’s Hair Color Education Team. In 2001 she was the proud recipient of Goldwell’s “Best Educator” award and received the Appreciation of Excellence award in 2003, 2004 and 2005. For 8 years, Kristen has been doing makeup for photo shoots, bridal events and personal portfolios. Trained in MAC makeup, she is experienced in bridal, television and music videos.
Kristen has been featured on CNN, Oprah’s WE channel, Marie Claire and Women’s First Magazine. She is also trained in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and currently is excitedly celebrating the birth of her first child.
Q: What made you want to become a hairdresser?
At the age of 5 I saw a glamorous blonde-haired stylist and I knew that was to be my profession! She was tall, tan and smoking and I thought the career was amazing!
Q: What brought you to NY and what keeps you here?
The clients and city of NY is like nothing you have ever felt before! I love energy and the spirit of the city and the people.
Q: What’s the biggest beauty myth?
That hairstylists are glamourous—some are not.
Q: What do you dislike the most when getting ready in the morning?
I dread having to do my hair however, if I do not do it– I do not have a good day.
Q: If someone made a movie about you who would play you and what kind of movie would it be?
It would be a comedy-Kristen Johnston would play me and I would find myself in the most embarrassing situations—like my real life!
Q: If you could have the starring role in a film already made which movie would you pick?
Goodfellas and I would play the wife of a mobster and spend my money on beautiful things! LOL
Q: What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I wanted to be a singer. American Idol would have been perfect but now I am too old.
Q: What thought or message would you put in a fortune cookie?
Never judge a book by it’s cover. The inside is always what counts and some insides could be rotten!)
Q: What is the one item you should throw away but probably never will?
My first wedding album.
Q: You’ve been given access to a time machine, where and when would you travel to?
The 1920’s in NYC and I would have one of those long cigarette holders and be a flapper.
Q: If you were trapped on a dessert island what 3 things and 1 person would you want with you?
My son Frankie and I would need food, drinks and sunblock.
Q: What could you eat every day?
Egg salad on a bagel.
