It’s not quite time to kiss the summer sun goodbye, and yet Starbucks is advertising the return of their Pumpkin Spice Latte, the leaves are beginning to loose their vibrancy and, most importantly, the weather is giving over to a crispness that won a tough fight with humidity this past week… I must say, its beginning to look a lot like Fall. The time of year when rich colors fill your wardrobe as you place layer upon layer over your chilly body to stay toasty warm, and still looking effortlessly lived in. The time of year that makes you forget your true love is Spring, as you begin channeling your inner wood nymph and what better way than with Samantha Pleet’s Fall 2013 Collection? In my opinion, there is just absolutely none. With a pallet that will make you feel like you’ve got wings, and an incredible Samantha Pleet for Wolverine shoe collection that will keep your feet feeling nestled and warm… I believe I’m falling hard this fall!
Our petrochemical, sulfate, and paraben free hair care line
One year ago the staff at Bloom started working on creating an organic “Scent Your Own” sustainable hair care line and it’s finally ready! Made locally in Westchester, New York, we created a petrochemical, sulfate, and paraben free hair care line called Lavender & Oak.
The products are 100% scent-free and we can scent your products just for you with certified organic essential oils from our apothecary. For those of you who prefer scent free products, you can order the unscented version.
We’ve worked long and hard to create products that not only work great on curly hair but also feels great in straight and wavy hair as well! Certified Organic Sugar Cane, JoJoba, and Carageenan extract give the hair intense shine and moisture making this product perfect for dehydrated, lackluster locks.
To learn more about the products visit Lavenderandoak.com or come into Bloom! We are offering special deals with this very special launch!
We wished and wished for sunshine and finally the clouds have parted and granted us the warmth we requested. However, while we love our new tans, we’re not so in love with the melted makeup and limp hair look. So how do we learn to love our cross town walks? Take to the Alps!! Grab a 50ml Evian Brumisateur for the perfect spritz in your bag. The light mist kisses your face with the cool splash of ice cold water. In the morning it’ll be just the thing to help wake you up between meetings and, before drinks with the girls, spray your face from an arms length away for a quick refresh to your make up and hair!! Here at Bloom it’s just the thing to get us through these long summer days… along with beach trips and laying out in the park, of course!!
I’m usually a very patient person, but I cannot wait any longer for Michel Gondry’s new film, MOOD INDIGO, to be released. Directed by Michel Gondry (who directed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, one of my favorites,) it stars two French actors, the quirky & cute Audrey Tatou (from Amelie, also one of my favorites) and the very handsome Romain Duris. The movie has the classic love story behind it – guy meets girl, they fall in love, and get married… tragically, during their honeymoon she starts to develop a heart condition. It’s a sad story, but in true Michel Gondry fashion he creates a feel-good world that is dreamy and also a little strange. Think of the couple swimming out of the church where they say “I do”, flying in a bubble cloud, and driving away in their “Just Married” car made entirely of glass… Let’s cross our fingers for a US release date soon!
Looking to add luster and shine to your tresses this summer? A favorite, no fail home ready of mine is something you probably already have in your cupboards. If not, apple cider vinegar will probably be one of the cheapest products you’ll ever buy for your hair. If you haven’t tried this on your hair before you will be surprised at how well it works to add life back to it!
1) It removes product buildup.
2) Is a natural hair detangler
3) The acidity of the product helps restore your hair to its natural PH balance, closing the cuticle and smoothing the surface to reflect more light and giving it a natural sheen.
Apple cider vinegar is also amazing for the body when taken internally. A shot of it in the morning is a great way to start the day, to add vitality and to help support the immune system; as well as remove toxins, promote digestion, and control weight.
First shampoo hair, next squeeze excess water from hair, pour Apple Cider Vinegar mixture over hair from roots to ends. Rub through. Let it sit in the hair for 5-10 mins. Rinse well with warm water and follow up with a conditioner. A favorite shampoo and conditioner that I have been loving for color treated or dry tresses is Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Wash and Hydrate me Rinse. When used with the Apple Cider Vinegar rinse this combo will be the perfect treatment to transform dry and lifeless summer hair to luscious silky locks. Get it Girlll!
PS: Come into Bloom and mention this post to receive 15% off your purchase of Kevin Murphy’s Hydrate Me Wash & Rinse
Looking for something fabulous to do in NYC this week? Go see the fabulous Valerie Hager perform her show “Naked in Alaska,” a true story about stripping in the last frontier. We’ve known Valerie for quite sometime. We’ve seen her get married by a mime (her father) and colored her hair many shades of red. We’re so proud to see her selected by the International NYC Fringe Festival performing her show in the Lower East Side August 15-24th.

Recently I’ve been in and out of the salon working on some pretty cool stuff…music videos! I love creating and I’m so excited to be working on some artistic creative projects where I can think outside the box.
The first video that’s been released you may have seen making it’s rounds on MTV2. It’s called “Nona’s Reservoir” by Michael Francis. I spent a weekend in upstate New York a few months back when we had that last snow storm of the season. We weren’t exactly preparing for a snow covered set. Actually I didn’t properly prepare and froze my butt off on set! In the end all the hard work paid off. The snow that made filming this video very difficult added a special beauty to the video that I couldn’t imagine without it.
Michael Francis is a very talented, and up and coming artist and really the nicest guys! I had the chance to hear his album and I really enjoyed it! I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed working on it.
I love bookstores, and when I saw images of the Shakespeare & Co. Bookshop in Paris my eyes turned into lush hearts that grew with each thought of how lovely it would be to peruse the shelves of this Paris gem. Officially added to my bucket list, I can now begin my journey sitting at the Shakespeare & Co Bookshop near Washington Square planning this grand literary adventure!!
My wonderful client Amiya sent me this awesome campaign that Dove created and I have to say it was quite moving! Even though I’m not a huge fan of their products I do love love love this video. It amazes me when a client sits in my chair and describes them self in such a negative way yet all I see is beauty. Why do we scrutinize our flaws and put them under microscopes until it’s the only thing left that we see?
Lets vow to change the way we perceive our beauty. Start by watching this awesome video!
